The All Progressives Congress (APC) Councillor representing Ward 5, Ibusa, in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. Hilary Ifechukwude Okobi, on Friday empowered members of his constituency through a large-scale empowerment programme.


The initiative, described by many attendees as one of the most significant empowerment projects undertaken by a councillor within the available resources of a ward, benefited numerous constituents and attracted widespread participation. The event, held at the Ward 5 Secretariat, Ogbor Iwu, Ogbeowele, Ibusa, drew party leaders, stakeholders, supporters, community members, and other dignitaries who gathered to witness the programme.


Although the event was scheduled to commence at 3:00 p.m., the venue was already filled by 1:00 p.m. with party executives, unit heads, supporters, and residents eager to participate in the occasion. According to information released after the programme, about 150 constituents benefited from the empowerment exercise. Various empowerment items were distributed, with beneficiaries expressing heartfelt appreciation to Hon. Okobi for what they described as a timely and impactful intervention.


Speaking after the event, Hon. Okobi reaffirmed his commitment to the progress, unity, and development of Ward 5. He called on political leaders, stakeholders, and community members to continue working together to build a stronger and more prosperous ward for the benefit of all residents.


He also expressed profound appreciation to the Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Council, Hon. Innocent Esewezie, for providing what he described as an invaluable opportunity to serve the people. Hon. Hilary Ifechukwude Okobi is a grassroots politician from Ibusa in Oshimili North Local Government Area. Before his election into public office, he was actively involved in student leadership, where he held several leadership positions.


Since assuming office, he has undertaken a number of community development projects, including the renovation of the Ashia Okpulukpu Market in Ibusa, which received widespread commendation from residents. He also facilitated the rehabilitation of the Umuogwo portable water source, improving access to clean water for members of the community. In a 2022 interview with PEN MASTER, Hon. Okobi identified community development, youth empowerment, and the improvement of public infrastructure as key priorities of his administration.


Among the dignitaries who attended the empowerment programme were Elder Anene Chigbue, Ward Chairman; Elder Emeka Odogwu; Mr. Emma Nwaoboshi; Mr. Martin Abuah Chukwurah; Mrs. Joy Kpakpa; and several other party leaders, stakeholders, and community members.
