 EBU, THE IGALA- SPEAKING COMMUNITY IN ANIOMA By Emeka Esogbue Located in the midst of other Oshimili communities and sharing the same Oshimili North Local Government Area in Delta State with Ibusa, Akwukwu-Igbo, Atuma, Okpanam, and Illah, Ebu is one of the most culturally influenced Anioma communities in existence today. The community, a border town that stands on the road to Benin, is further bordered by Illah and Ezi, among others.  The Ebu geography of contiguity continues. The people migrated from Idah in today's Kogi State from where they settled in the present Delta State site amid Igbo-speaking Enuani communities of Oshimili extraction. It is historically said that they migrated all the way from Idah to settle in their present location in search of a prime fishing area.  Betta People of Oshimili North Celebrates End-of-Year party in Grand Style All roads led to Ibusa, a community in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State on Tuesday when the members of Betta People of Oshimili North, an interactive organization with the object of the promotion of Enuani culture took over the community for their 2nd Annual End-of-Year party event.  Betta People of Oshimili North, an initiative of Mrs. Nneka Edith Obiechie had distinguished members of the Association from ranks and file, and from different parts of the country in attendance with guests describing it as colourful and accommodating of the Anioma people of Enuani extraction with similar interest.  The program started with the recognition of members of the organization who introduced themselves. IKELI IFE RITE IN ANIOMA NATION Emeka Esogbue Here is the age-long tradition of the Anioma peopl e on focus.  It is the "Ikeli Ife" rite in which beneficiaries, mostly old men, titled men, clan representatives or youths depending on the nature of Ikeli Ife usually gather within an agreed location that could be Ogwa or home of the Diokpa to receive their portion of a given item.  Usually, a communal goat or cow is slaughtered, and once slaughtered, shared pieces of meat are natively put on plantain leaves from which individuals pick their portion by seniority.  On a lighter side, this is where you hear the biggest forms of grammar from our Diokpas. Some make it a mixture of English and Igbo, which we lightly call 'Engili-Igbo' while others especially the 'Oluoyibo' returnees demonstrate the biggest forms of 'adjectivial grammar' to talk their 'opponents' to submission.  Lest I forget, it does not take long for disputes to break out in which argu...

Not many have known that there are Yoruba settlements in Delta State, specifically among the Anioma people of today. This is because not much is known of the social history of the people (Anioma) now hugely located in Delta State. Researchers from the region really have a lot to dig into concerning the people. The Anioma people with heterogeneous origins are obviously some of the understudied people in Nigeria thus only very little documentations about the people are available. The dominant language of the people of this area is Igbo though, a few other languages are spoken within the region. Some of these few other languages spoken in the region are Oza or Ozzara spoken close to Edo. Some of the speakers of this particular language are: 1. Ozanogo 2. Alilehan 3. Alisor 4.
