A DIRGE FOR OUR MATRIARCH AND FORMER PRINCIPAL OF IBUSA GIRLS SECONDARY SCHOOL, HON DR. MRS. FELICIA NWAEZE (1940 - 2023)  With mournful eyes and hearts, and elegiac character, we, the members of the Old  Students Association of Ibusa Girls Secondary School, Ibusa, your mentorees put together this plaintive piece in honour of Hon Dr. Mrs. Felicia Onyemaechi Nwaeze, B.A. M.EdA, Ph.D; an academic, and politician who was a former Principal of our dear school earlier mentioned here.  Hon Dr. Nwaeze, our principal and matriarch, who nursed and nurtured us to transform into who we variously are today, was a core disciplinarian, whose task, it seemed was to raise in sagacity and from scratch, men and women who would further contribute to man's society and she succeeded on us.  To achieve this task, she foundationally elevated the Ibusa Girls Secondary School of her time, to the best of school in Oshimili and beyond, utilizing the tools of counseling, guidance, and mot...

Government Allocation of Arable Farmlands to Estate Developers, Dangerous

Government Allocation of Arable Farmlands to Estate Developers, Dangerous - Emeka Egwuda Speaks in Support of Frank Okafor's Ibusa Interview  By Emeka Esogbue Ace author, publisher, and policy analyst, Emeka Egwuda has praised the recent Frank Okafor interview in which the interviewer bared his mind on issues troubling the Ibusa agricultural sector in Delta State.  Emeka Egwuda while making his opinions known, said, "Emeka (Pen Master), this interview is touching, topical, and intellectually brainstormed. If you ask me, Igbuzo is only used here as a micro-analysis of a macro-problem that leaves all of us without any sure hope." Frank Okafor, in the interview with Pen Master, had raised several issues on agriculture, one of the areas that rarely receive attention in Ibusa from the people and government, stating that until in the main mid-80s, the mainstay of the Ibusa economy was farming but unfortunately the sector fell into neglect since 1985 with total neglect by Igbuz...

Erosion of Farmlands for Real Estate and Abandonment of Agriculture, Putting Ibusa at High Risk of Hunger - Frank Okafor  Dr. Collins Nweke, the Nigerian-born Belgian politician had published a poem, titled "Solis Occasum: Memories from my Igbuzo Sunset," a poem that would evoke reactions from prominent indigenes of the community including Dr. Henry Ajumeze, the President of Guild of Ibusa Writers and Authors and Mr. Frank Isioma Okafor, the President of the Abuja Branch of Ibusa Community Development Union/Project Manager with European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS.  The reaction of Frank Okafor touched on agriculture as a dying occupation of the people of Igbuzo once considered an agrarian community. Consequently, this submission spurred EMEKA ESOGBUE (PEN MASTER) to further engage him in a deeper and more interesting interview. Excerpts: Pen Master: Let us begin with your appreciation of this poetic work. How do you see this poem from Dr. Collins Nweke? Frank...

Ajumeze, in a terse message made available to the executives of the Association via the GIWA executive platform, said, "Dear House, a particular matter keeps drawing my attention as something within our spheres of interest. It is the persistent refusal to assert our name as the bona-fide community in which Admiralty University is founded and sited," while urging the Management of the school to recognize the community as the host community in their publications. Dr. Ajumeze, a renowned poet and lecturer in Theatre Arts, popular for his book, "Dimples on the Sand," who ...

THE OFAAC ANIOMA DAY AND THE CHALLENGE BEFORE ANIOMA TRADITIONAL RULERS

THE OFAAC ANIOMA DAY AND THE CHALLENGE BEFORE ANIOMA TRADITIONAL RULERS - Emeka Esogbue  Fortunately, the Anioma in Nigeria seems to be one of the luckiest groups in the country in a known particular sense. In the past 20 years, this group of people geographically situated in Delta State with Asaba, a city situated on the mouth of the majestic River Niger as the state capital has gained fame. Anioma has regularly received projections and advocacy from her indigenous people. It is also today, one of the Nigerian groups with the highest number of associations, organizations, housing estates, firms, chieftaincy titles, book titles, and media arrangements in its name.  We are also beginning to see research centers spring up in this name as we now see in the Centre for Omuship and Women Development which is sited in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State courtesy of HRM Obi DR Martha Dunkwu, the Omu of Anioma.  These organizations are often register...

What is Ishi Among the Enuani People?

What is Ishi Among the Enuani People?  - Pen Master (Emeka Esogbue) Ishi also called Ifi means "spiritual retribution," in the belief of the Enuani people of Anioma in Delta State.   In general terms, it is a spiritual punishment either for doing what one was not supposed to do or for not doing what one was supposed to do. Either way, one suffers from the misconduct.  In line with marriage, a woman who sleeps outside the home may suffer ishi not because the bride price is on her head but because her husband still considers her married to him and they live under one roof while he feeds on food cooked by her. If a bride price is on the head of a woman but they have separated and gone their way, there could be nothing like ishi. Ishi only happens because the woman still sleeps with her husband and cooks for him to eat. And even if they both live under a single roof as a husband and wife the woman is flirtatious, the man will only avoid two things, eating her food ...
