Umu Ibusa UK Returns Home to Shower Love on Ibusa Orphans

IBUSA— The spirit of kinship and communal bonding reached a festive crescendo on Sunday, December 28, 2025, as the diaspora-based youth group, Umu Ibusa United Kingdom, made a triumphant return to their ancestral home to reach out to the less privileged. In a move described as a homecoming of love, the group visited the Shalom Orphanage Foundation in the Umuhea axis of Ibusa, where they showered the children with substantial donations and hope.
The delegation, led by the President of Umu Ibusa UK, Mr. Nnamdi Okonji, alongside his elder brother, Iloba Okonji, also had the Uwolo of Ibusa, Chief Amaechi Nwaenie in attendance. The group was received with songs of joy. Seeking to address both the physical and developmental needs of the orphans, the group presented a variety of items ranging from essential foodstuffs and cash to modern electronic gadgets. Notably, the donation included specialized hearing aids and educational games designed to improve the quality of life for children with special needs.
Speaking during the presentation, the founder of Shalom Orphanage Foundation, Barr. (Mrs.) Irene Ofili, expressed profound gratitude to the visitors, stating that the gesture was a rare show of humanity. She commended the members for traveling all the way from Europe to remember those who have no one to call their own, attributing their determination to a deep-seated love for the Ibusa community. The visit, she noted, serves as a morale booster for the foundation in its mission to care for the vulnerable.
In his remarks, the Uwolo of Ibusa, Chief Amaechi Nwaenie, who graced the occasion in support of the youth, expressed immense pride in the evolution of the group. He recalled that Umu Ibusa UK was an offspring of the vision nurtured during his tenure as the President of the Ibusa Community Development Union (ICDU), United Kingdom. According to him, the ICDU worked assiduously to ensure that children born and raised in the UK remained connected to their roots, and seeing them return to execute such a heart-warming project was a clear indication that "the labour of our heroes past" was yielding fruit.
The President, Mr. Nnamdi Okonji, while handing over the items, pledged that the group would remain committed to the welfare of Ibusa. He promised that the orphanage visit was merely the beginning of a broader roadmap to support various sectors within the town that require urgent intervention.
Founded in 2003, Umu Ibusa UK has continued to serve as a platform for cultural preservation and unity among the younger generation of Ibusa indigenes in the British diaspora. The group currently operates under the high patronage of the Onihea of Ibusa, Chief Roland Nwanze, and the Matron, Ezewanyi Beatrice Nkeonye Nwaenie.
