Huxley Unumadu, Izomo of Umuebu Wins the King of Tradition award

- Dedicates Award to Gov Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State for Effective Leadership and Transformation

By Emeka Esogbue

They say honour and good works do not go unrecognized as they breed value and respect and this is seen in Ugoesa Huxley Adiniebo Unumadu who was recently honoured in far-away Garden City, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.

There seems no end of glorious awards and honours for the Izomo of Umuebu Kingdom in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State. To those who know him closely well, Ugoesa Huxley Unumadu, the Senior Special Assistant to Gov Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State on Tourism and Culture is everything, the culture, and tradition of the Anioma nation, traveling to cart home nearly every available award from corporate bodies, the media, and government agencies around Africa.

In the present Delta State administration, the Izomo is not only seen to have justified his portfolio but has taken the rich cultural heritage of the people of Delta State in general to Africa where he has also been honoured, he also appears to have stood out from among the appointment carriers of his fellow Ndokwa/Ukwuani kinsmen, reaching out and relating to other people outside the bounds of this immediate Ndokwa border. Put simply, with his tourism, arts, and culture portfolio, Unumadu has brought the Okowa administration and Delta State and Nigeria pride.

This particular "King of Tradition" award is something to particularly take home. As the awardee stated, King of Tradition, awarded by Love FM Port Harcourt is special to his 25 years of journey of services in the culture and tourism business.

"It is with profound appreciation and feeling of honour that I stand before this august organization to receive this remarkable Award. Yes, this award is very important to me because it is a fundamental testimony of my 25 years of involvement in culture and tourism development across the global village, especially in Africa."

In a country where everything is going political and other spheres no longer bears significance, the Okowa Aide on culture and tourism is also rooting for the promotion and sustainability of tourism.

"We have come to a time in our national life where the leadership of this country must recognize that the customs and traditions of our. multi-ethnic Nigeria must be infused in national development plans for the positive outcome socio-cultural, economic and political cohesion to happen," he said in a statement after his honour with the award.

However, the interesting turn-out is that Ugoesa Huxley Unumadu is dedicating this award to His Excellency, Dr.  Ifeanyi Okowa, the Governor of Delta State for effective leadership and transformation of the state.

Congratulations to Ugoesa Huxley Unumadu, the Izomo of the Umuebu Kingdom from Pen Master.

A SHORT HISTORY OF OBOLLO CLAN IN ENUGU STATE, NIGERIA

A SHORT HISTORY OF OBOLLO CLAN IN ENUGU STATE, NIGERIA By Emeka Esogbue Introduction Not many historical literatures on the Obollo people exist for the usual reasons associated with our people who prefer to write the history of mighty and populous peoples already enriched with volumes of historical accounts and records. Thus while there are historical documents on other peoples of Igbo, for Obollo, it is the story of dearth of documents. However, it is within my historical concern that the rich history of this part of Igboland be adequately researched into, documented and preserved for the future generation. I do not hail from this part of Igboland but my historical background, interest and curiosity propelled me towards the acquisition of both oral and written information to put this material together. Geography The various Obollo communities comprising of Obollo Afor, Obollo Etiti, Obollo Eke, Obollo Orie and Obollo Nkwo are strategically situated at the regional bou...

Umuezechime in Anioma: History and Identity Factor Resolved By Emeka Esogbue

Umuezechime in Anioma: History and Identity Factor Resolved By Emeka Esogbue Introduction Although the Anioma peopling the West Bank of the Niger River Basin have often been categorized as a people that wholesomely trace their origin to only one particular ethnic group of Nigeria by writers of history and other researchers from outside the Anioma region, numerous historical evidences drawn from the oral and written sources, and migration theories of the people confirm their heterogeneous origins. Evidently, all the peoples that now comprise the “Anioma” area originated from different ethnic groups of the Nigerian nation.   The above is confirmed by Osia (2012:6) who wrote: “History notes that the Anioma people trace their origins to various communities within Nigeria: Edo, Igala, Yoruba and Igbo. No history has proved these ancestries otherwise…” Esogbue (2015:14) further admitted that: “there is always tendency for researchers to an extent to assign the whole of...
