Jubilations As Omu Ibusa Completes Installation Rites
- Emeka Esogbue
There was a wild jubilation in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State as Omu Josephine Isioma Nwannabuogwu, the Omu of Ibusa performed her final rites of Omuship at the Eke Market Square of the community natively called "Ashia Eke." The Omu was seen in a video that circulated on social media performing the rites in the full glare of the public eyes, supported by some elders and Otu Omu. Native drummers, youths and women were also seen in the video now widely viewed online. The sound of a traditional flutist otherwise called "Akpele" and voices of native praise singers were also heard during the rite performance at the busy Eke Market.
Incidentally, the market, the largest in the community, located along the popular Umejei Road, was established by the first Omu of Ibusa, according to the community's legend. Omu Josephine Nwannabuogwu was seen in the video heading for the traditional Nkwuaka sacred place by the market and in a short while, knelt down and said prayers for the Ibusa community, calling on God to usher peace, harmony and togetherness to the community.
"Our Culture and Tradition is our Identity. 4th of July came with a huge success as tradition demands that after my coronation as Omu Igbuzo I must visit the market as Omu is Eze Ashia for cleansing and supplication to God Almighty and the gods of the land. Prayers were said for the progress of Asia Eke and for peace in Igbuzo. God bless all sons and daughters of Igbuzo home and abroad, and may peace return to our home," the Omu posted on her social media space afterwards.
The rite which is "Ipu Ashia" is the last of the installation rites according to people's culture. By implication, it confirms the Omu as "Eze Ashia," the head of the market. Omu Josephine Nwannabuogwu was installed the Omu of the Ibusa clan on April 12, 2022 after a long void in which the traditional institution did not have any occupant.
