KWUSIKE NIGHT: GUILD OF WRITERS AND AUTHORS CALLS FOR TRIBUTES FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC

Set to honour Philip Ngozi Ifechukwude-Kwusike, the late Ibusa novelist and poet, with a night of tributes, the Guild of Ibusa Writers and Authors (GIWA), an association of intellectuals from the community is calling for tributes and other forms of presentations from the friends and family of the late writer described as "servant of Ibusa community" by Sir Onyeluka Igbonoba in his tribute.

The post humus honour is coming the way of the author of "Imagine Lagos and Other Stories" as the first official ceremony of the newly formed Guild of Ibusa Writers and Authors under the pioneering leadership of Dr. Henry Obi Ajumeze, a Lecturer with the School of Arts, Languages, and Cultures,

University of Manchester,

United Kingdom. The event will come up inside the Kefas Hall, Ibusa, Delta State on Saturday, October, 8.

In a message forwarded to the members of the Association, the Group's General Secretary, Comrade Austin Ogechukwu Nwulia said:

"In line with the proposed programme of the event for Philip Ngozi Ifechukwude's Night of Tributes, the working committee is calling for participation and special presentation, renditions/tributes."

"Members are free to come up with presentations. Those who may not be handy with any can indicate their interest in special presentations that can be sourced from Kwusike’s works. Similarly, members who desire to compose a special rendition or performance (literary or cultural) in honour of Philip can send in their entries for consideration by the planning committee on or before next Tuesday, 20th of September, 2022."

The Group also appeals to the general public especially the sons and daughters of Ibusa to take the opportunity to speak about the benefits of serving the community in the promotion of her socio-cultural growth.

The organizers will take the opportunity to unveil the Organization, Guild of Ibusa Writers and Authors, to the general public.

More importantly, the Group looks forward to making favourable impacts on literary creativity in the community. Already, Dr. Ajumeze, the President has proposed a literary prize with the intention that it will work as a token to encourage young Ibusa writers to write and get interested in writing while calling on capable indigenes of the community to work closely with the Association to sponsor prizes in future in partnership with the Association. According to him, the real value is recognized.

Mr. Victor Asianah, an Ibusa novelist who recently and successfully had his book adapted to a movie by Nollywood has pledged his intention to do a tribute for the late Kwusike, which is considered a welcome development.
