CHIKA, IBUSA SON MAKES NEW DISCOVERY IN MATHEMATICS

– Emeka Esogbue

The intellectual blessings of the Anioma people came to fore again with 12-year old Chikadibia Ofili who recently made a discovery in the discipline of mathematics and has been conferred with a special award in recognition of the great feat.

Chika’s teacher and Head of Westminster Under School, Mary Ellis who confirmed the development, accentuated that he made the discovery on November 19, 2020 in the UK while expectedly solving his holiday assignment.

“The little Mathematician just discovered a new formula for divisibility by 7 in Maths” as widely circulated on the internet.

“Ellis had reportedly given the young man a book, which contained several divisibility tests used to quickly work out if a figure is exactly divisible by the numbers 2 to 9, however, the book had no memorable test for checking divisibility by 7”, posted on the internet by a source.

Consequently, he was honoured at an official ceremony that recognizes intellectual accomplishments within his age bracket in the UK.

Brainy Chika Ofili capably devised a new formula which he arithmetically backed up with algebraic proof

In this newly discovered formula, the last digit of any whole number is taken and multiplied by 5 then added to the remaining part of the number to get a new number. When this new number becomes divisible by 7, the original number also becomes divisible by 7. With this Ofili has created a formula that other Mathematicians may find useful in due course.

Mathematician Chika Ofili is born to Ibusa parents in the UK. His father is Ogochukwu Ofili natively from Umudiagbo, Umueze Quarters of the community while his mother is Nma Ofili, a midwife in the medical profession. Both parents reside together.

Ibusa is known for her huge richness in human resource area. The community, located in Oshimili Local Government Area of Delta State possesses renowned professors in different endeavours numbering close to one hundred and still counting.

Notable Professors from the include Prof Pat Okedinachi Utomi, one of Nigeria’s best economists and the nation’s former presidential aspirant. Others include UK-based Prof Vincent Icheku and Prof Fred Osy Osadebe; Prof Austin Uwandulu, founder of prestigious Academy for Governance and Prof Augustine Onwuyali Esogbue, one time only black man in the services of American NASA.

Meanwhile the community also produced Prof Chike Onwuachi, the first Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs and noted Novelist, Prof Buchi Emecheta both of whom are now deceased among several other erudite scholars.

A SHORT HISTORY OF OBOLLO CLAN IN ENUGU STATE, NIGERIA

A SHORT HISTORY OF OBOLLO CLAN IN ENUGU STATE, NIGERIA By Emeka Esogbue Introduction Not many historical literatures on the Obollo people exist for the usual reasons associated with our people who prefer to write the history of mighty and populous peoples already enriched with volumes of historical accounts and records. Thus while there are historical documents on other peoples of Igbo, for Obollo, it is the story of dearth of documents. However, it is within my historical concern that the rich history of this part of Igboland be adequately researched into, documented and preserved for the future generation. I do not hail from this part of Igboland but my historical background, interest and curiosity propelled me towards the acquisition of both oral and written information to put this material together. Geography The various Obollo communities comprising of Obollo Afor, Obollo Etiti, Obollo Eke, Obollo Orie and Obollo Nkwo are strategically situated at the regional bou...

Umuezechime in Anioma: History and Identity Factor Resolved By Emeka Esogbue

Umuezechime in Anioma: History and Identity Factor Resolved By Emeka Esogbue Introduction Although the Anioma peopling the West Bank of the Niger River Basin have often been categorized as a people that wholesomely trace their origin to only one particular ethnic group of Nigeria by writers of history and other researchers from outside the Anioma region, numerous historical evidences drawn from the oral and written sources, and migration theories of the people confirm their heterogeneous origins. Evidently, all the peoples that now comprise the “Anioma” area originated from different ethnic groups of the Nigerian nation.   The above is confirmed by Osia (2012:6) who wrote: “History notes that the Anioma people trace their origins to various communities within Nigeria: Edo, Igala, Yoruba and Igbo. No history has proved these ancestries otherwise…” Esogbue (2015:14) further admitted that: “there is always tendency for researchers to an extent to assign the whole of...
