All roads led to Ibusa for
the investiture ceremony for the conferment of Uwolo on Chief Amaechi Nwaenie.
This all important event for the community took place on Saturday, June 3, 2017
at the palace of HRM (Obi) Prof Louis Nwaoboshi, the Obuzor of Ibusa in Umueze
quarters of the community. Anioma Essence can authoritatively report that
guests started arriving at the Umueze palace venue of the ceremony as early as
8 am to witness the event.
The Uwolo is a warlord and
the leader of “Otu” Uwolo, one of the three “otus” that exists in the community
with the other two being the Odogwu and Iyase. These three traditional
positions are highly respected in the community. In ancient Ibusa, they were Army
Generals that led the community to wars and also defended her against eternal
aggressions. “Odogwu” is etymologically of Igbo while “Uwolo” and “Iyase” are
of Benin etymology. However, all traditional titles exist in Anioma of today
and are well-respected where practised. By Ibusa setting, these traditional
titles in come in order of seniority: Odogwu, Uwolo and Iyase respectively.
The United Kingdom-based
Chief Nwaenie, a lawyer by training who hails from Umuodafe quarters has in the
course of time identified with Ibusa and also contributed towards the
development of the community in several fronts. He has also been a very strong
member of the Ibusa Community Development Union (ICDU), London Branch, the
development union charged with the social development of the community.
A number of indigenes
spoken to by Anioma Essence crew within the community not only confirmed their
enthusiasm in response to his conferment but believed that his reign would
usher in peace and progress because of his high level of enlightenment,
peaceful nature and humility which they said he has justifiably exhibited over
the time. His enthusiasm for culture is also said to be favourable to this
traditional position.
