A group simply identified as Welfare Department, under the
auspices of Igbuzo Singles Meet (ISM), an umbrella body of singles and
unmarried youths of Ibusa, a community in Oshimili North Local Government Area
of Delta State has donated books to Delta State Library, Ibusa. The group led
by Miss Josephine Isioma Nwannabuogwu who delivered a welcome address to the management
of the library appealed to them to work towards ensuring that Anioma history is
taken with seriousness as a way of understanding the heritage of the people. She
said that the Anioma culture is beautiful and rich with cultural norms and
values and also complete with requisite cultural standard for societal
development.
Miss Nwannabuogwu who is also the Head of Department (HOD) of
the Welfare Group emphasized the aim of the donation of the books. She said
that it was to encourage reading culture and permit that topics relating to the
history of the Anioma people be included in secondary school curriculum as a
way of imparting knowledge and preserving their past. However, the books titled
“A Study of the Origins and Migrations of Anioma Settlements” and “A Short
History of Omu” authored by Mr. Emeka Esogbue, a Historian said to also hail
from Ibusa were on behalf of the group, specifically presented to the Library
Attendant, Mr. Felix Nwagor by Miss Florence Agokei.
In acknowledgment, the Library Attendant promised to deliver
the group’s message to the Librarian, Mrs. Naomi, who was unavoidably absent.
The group promised to extend further gestures to other libraries in the country
and hinted that the Edo State Library was its next target.
The Welfare Department is an arm of Igbuzo Singles Meet
founded to promote public good in and around the Anioma region. The group has
in its membership more than one thousand members. Last year, it paid a visit to
an orphanage home in the community where they celebrated with children without
living parents and also assisting them with gifts.
