In what is becoming examples to other custodians of the Anioma culture, the Omu of Okpanam/Anioma, HRM Obi Martha Dunkwu is effortlessly and in true Anioma spirit, staying and remaining in the forefront of the promotion and preservation of the Anioma culture especially on Omuship, which is unique to the people.
Yesterday, in what looked unprecedented, amazing, and interesting, two distinguished professors from the University of Chicago who have heard of the Omuship with its uniqueness, traveled down to Okpanam Palace of the Omu Anioma to listen to the Omu Okpanam/Anioma lectures on Omuship.
Interested in this aspect of Anioma culture and being long-time admirers of Obi Dr. Martha Dunkwu, the Omu of Okpanam/Anioma even from afar, the two erudite professors from the University of Chicago, USA, hit the road, all the way from America to the ancient Anioma community of Okpanam in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria.
The Omu then rallied around other Omu and also took time to lecture them on the role of Anioma Omuship towards women's development in modern Anioma society. A closed-door meeting was further held over undisclosed subjects. However, the indefatigable Omu did not neglect to have the professors have some words with your Pen Master in the afternoon of the lecture via phone calls.
In the last few years, there has been a wind of change regarding the reawakening of Omuship in Anioma with several Anioma towns re-enthroning the institution while other towns, prominently Ibusa, are working towards the actualization. Yesterday, the Ugbolu community became the most recent in the ongoing Anioma cultural change of preservation.
Obi Dr. Martha Dunkwu, the Omu of Okpanam/Anioma has also been hailed for standing in the cultural gap for Anioma and for also taking the Okpanam name afar.
