Meet Angela Loks, the Beautiful Nigerian Soprano Singer from Ibusa

Meet Angela Loks, the Beautiful Nigerian Soprano Singer from Ibusa

- Emeka Esogbue

When it comes to the orchestra, the Ibusa community merits a global place with her. She is a singer, music consultant, sopranist, soloist, orchestrator, and event planner.

Favoured by beauty physically and intelligently; on and off the performance stage, only a few could have rightly guessed that Angela Nwalokomobi

Izegbu, professionally known as Angela Loks" is an Anioma from Ogboli part of the Ibusa community in Delta State.

When it has to do with singing, Angela Loks, a widely celebrated big fish defines timeless quality and excellence but again, her Ibusa homestead, a rich home of human resource capital, has a way of swallowing up even the most accomplished so, Angela Loks remains an unknown big fish in her community.

Earlier in her career, Loks came to the limelight with her distinguished role in Maya Angelou's poem titled "Phenomenal Woman," a poetic title that would thereafter earn her a nickname.

In 2014, she performed at the famous MTN Appreciation Concert thereby heightening her career and moving closer to the singing world. Loks had exhibited an uncommon vocalization as a sopranist extraordinaire on stage. Her unique soprano gift, being the highest female type with quality-assured tessitura which allowed her to sing at the highest register, thrilled the audience that night inside the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos. She was simply impressive.

Court by global singers and other lovers of art, Angela Loks makes a good partner with good singers, associating with singers to perform songs.

She was the pioneer soloist who performed "Poulenc's Gloria" with the MUSON choir in 2016, under the renowned German Conductor Micheal Voldhart and the event was the first performance in Nigeria.

According to Loks, her love for singing started early in life with Whitney Houston named her childhood idol. Nevertheless, one must not become oblivious to the musicianship that runs in her Ogboli bloodline especially, the Okonjis. Accordingly, the Anioma music legend, Chief Ogbogu Okonji, and his cousinly contemporary, Etiti Okonji; the Nwalamas in late Uche Nwalama, Iweanya Nwalama, and Isioma Nwalama are in this musical line.

She would join the children's choir in her local church which helped to build up her career. Further professional training from Prof Laz Ekwueme, Sir Emeka Nwokedi, Cohbams Asuquo, Druminski Dimitri, Maria Aseeva, Tunde Jegede, Marion Akpata, Ayo Bankole, German musicologist Walter Micheal Voldhart, and a host other internationally-acclaimed professionals became a culmination of her acme.

Educational value is not also lost on Angela Loks who is a graduate of Business Administration from the Lagos State University and holder of M.Sc in International Relations from the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos.

It is interesting to note that the Music-talented Angela Loks is highly trained in music. She graduated in Music from the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON), under the MTN Foundation Music Scholarship Program and due to her academic brilliance, was one of the thirty Nigerian beneficiaries of the yearly music scholarship on merit.

She also brilliantly passed the Trinity and Graded Examination in piano theory, and voice from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London.

Music has taken Angela Loks around the world. She was part of the choir that represented Nigeria at the World Choir Games which were held in Cincinnati, USA, Riga, Latvia, and Tshwane, South Africa in 2012, 2014, and 2018 respectively.

She was the first appointed female Secretary-General of the Lagos Catholic Archdiocesan Music Commission (LAMCOM) and was recently appointed the first female consultant and Judge of the Non-Denominational Christian Choir Association of Nigeria (NCCN) and also the first female to attain such a position.

Angela Loks says her philosophy in life revolves around kindness, a resilient sense of purpose, and societal peace and values. Her hobby is singing, listening to music, reading, and traveling. Angela Loks is a follower of Pen Master who likes to read his articles.

It is no longer news that Angela Loks is vying for the People of Oshimili North (PoON) ambassadorial position. Being a manager of MUSON, the number one music centre in the country, Angela is a big name with global connection, a key capable of opening the doors of the People of Oshimili North. There could well be a live concert of singers in Enuani nation; the first of its kind in the name of PoON and to the glory of Oshimili North, if her ambition sails through.

Concerned with humanitarian activities, she could focus her projects on widows but women are sure to make principal benefits. Loks could also run programs, capable of promoting PoON as an Organization but this is if the Organization makes a good choice to exploit her personality, background, and achievements.

As they say, democratic votes are not weighed on quality but on quantity. However, if Angela Loks emerges, the People of Oshimili North may have chosen an artistic personality outside of political leaning, a rareness in her ambassadorial history.

This Author, (Dr. Emeka Esogbue), recently listed Angela Izegbu in his book, "Book of Records: A Compendium of Ibusa Firsts and Achievers," an accomplishing place that she merits.

DIAMOND JUBILEE AGE: 20 THINGS THE WORLD DOES NOT KNOW ABOUT FRED AJUDUA

DIAMOND JUBILEE AGE: 20 THINGS THE WORLD DOES NOT KNOW ABOUT FRED AJUDUA On January 21 2020, Pen Master paid Chief Fred Ajudua a scheduled visit at his Lagos-VGC Marble Dome Home, a large and imposing house sitting on a hill from where it vigorously engages public views and attention. On entering the house, Pen Master freely walked in and around, in the spirit of the love that always binds the people of Igbuzo. The man, Chief Fred Ajudua often described as the “Architect of Modern Ibusa” is unarguably one of the biggest fish in history to have come out of Ibusa even as it is said that nearly every Ibusa family has benefited from him one way or the other. Beyond what you know about him, there seems many sides you do not know. As the Igbuzo Chief celebrates his 60 th Year birthday, your Pen Master brings you the things you do not know about the highly influential Igbuzo Chief. Pen Master also dug into the Ajudua family photo depository all for your knowledge. Happy reading!

A SHORT HISTORY OF OBOLLO CLAN IN ENUGU STATE, NIGERIA

A SHORT HISTORY OF OBOLLO CLAN IN ENUGU STATE, NIGERIA By Emeka Esogbue Introduction Not many historical literatures on the Obollo people exist for the usual reasons associated with our people who prefer to write the history of mighty and populous peoples already enriched with volumes of historical accounts and records. Thus while there are historical documents on other peoples of Igbo, for Obollo, it is the story of dearth of documents. However, it is within my historical concern that the rich history of this part of Igboland be adequately researched into, documented and preserved for the future generation. I do not hail from this part of Igboland but my historical background, interest and curiosity propelled me towards the acquisition of both oral and written information to put this material together. Geography The various Obollo communities comprising of Obollo Afor, Obollo Etiti, Obollo Eke, Obollo Orie and Obollo Nkwo are strategically situated at the regional bou

SEE HOW ANIOMA PEOPLE DRESS ON THEIR TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE THE ERA OF USING OUR TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE TO PROMOTE ATTIRES OF OTHER GROUPS IN NIGERIA IS GONE

SEE HOW ANIOMA PEOPLE DRESS ON THEIR TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE THE ERA OF USING OUR TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE TO PROMOTE ATTIRES OF OTHER GROUPS IN NIGERIA IS GONE Today is Saturday, conventionally set aside for marriage ceremonies. Awareness on how our Anioma brides and grooms attire themselves during their traditional marriage has fast spread and entrenched. We no longer promote other group's cultural attires because we want them to promote our own instead. I say many thanks to our Anioma cultural advocates on this day because our labours to preserve as well as promote the good cultures of our Anioma society have never been in vain. Noticeable now is that in   time of our traditional marriages, we costume ourselves in Akwa-Ocha which brings out our god-given beauty. A few moments after her traditional marriage in Umuodafe, Ibusa on December 28, inside the Agokei palatial home, I visited former Miss Amaka Thelma Agokei, the bride. I was rather late; but I met this beautiful bride t
