16 Factors that Killed the Nigerian Educational System at the Primary and Secondary Level

16 Factors that Killed the Nigerian Educational System at the Primary and Secondary Level By Emeka Esogbue Teacher: (To one of his male students) Why are you so rough? Why do you behave like this? Tell me, is this how you behave at home? Student: No, Aunty, my father will 'kill' me if I behave like this at home Teacher; (Looking surprised) Then, why did you choose the school to behave like this?  Student: (Talking with boldness) Aunty, it is because you, people don't flog us here. My comment: One of the worst things that happened to the Nigerian education system in recent times, is the entreant of the private schools, uncontrolled by the government. It helped to bury the primary and secondary school system.  School ownership turned schools to businesses - a profit-making venture to the detriment of impartation of discipline The Factors 1. School owners prefer students to teachers. Teachers are nothing and students being money are everything 2. Children are no longer to be

HOW OMU IFESIMEHONE REPELLED MURTALA MUHAMMED AND SAVED ONICHA-ONA FROM THE CIVIL WAR MASSACRE

HOW OMU IFESIMEHONE REPELLED MURTALA MUHAMMED AND SAVED ONICHA-ONA FROM THE CIVIL WAR MASSACRE By Emeka Esogbue What is underreported even by Anioma writers of the Nigerian Civil War are roles played by the Omus of the Anioma people in preventing their communities from the massacres tied to the 1967-1970 civil war. It is this perspective of Omiship that this Author is finding interest in documenting Anioma history enthusiasts. The gruesome massacres carried out in the defunct Asaba Division but concentrated in Asaba were repellently frightful. In Igbodo, it was a combination of the old and young. In Isheagu, the concentration was on the aged, especially the chiefs and traditional leaders of the community, and in Asaba, it sweepingly involved the old and young with the youths s targets. Subsequently, Asaba was denied viable young men for a very long time.  That of Ibusa, a community, only 6 miles from victimized neighbouring Asaba, was more of terrorism, with Nigerian soldiers invading

IN MEMORY OF OMU MGBOUSHE OF ASABA: THE CIVIL WAR HEROINE, BETRAYED BY HER PEOPLE AND KILLED BY SOLDIERS

IN MEMORY OF OMU MGBOUSHE OF ASABA: THE CIVIL WAR HEROINE, BETRAYED BY HER PEOPLE AND KILLED BY SOLDIERS  By Emeka Esogbue Although the Omu Mgboushe of Asaba statue stands reverently erect in front of Ogbeogonogo Market in Asaba, most visitors and natives alike do not know the history behind the statue. Nevertheless, the statue stands to historically testify to the wartime atrocities and deaths that the people of Asaba suffered during the Nigerian Civil War. Omuship is a 500- year female traditional institution that exists among the Anioma people. The institution also once existed in Onicha Ado (Onitsha) and Ossomarri, two other Anioma communities that are now outside the geographical Delta State.  Omuship, charged with the spiritual, economic, and political responsibilities to their respective Anioma communities is the pride of the people. It is also the traditional vehicle for the movent of women in this region. Take for instance, in Ibusa, a community of about 6 miles from Asaba, t

The Igbuzo Singles Meet (ISM) Conference: What they said at the Conference Hon Innocent Esewezie: I am determined to pursue and achieve the interest of the Ibusa Youth and will use ISM as a platform. Our youths especially women should be empowered. I had to put off my other engagement to be here to relate closely with our Ibusa youths.  - Hon Esewezie, Oshimili North LGA Chairman Emeka Esogbue: Our youths are in neglect. Ibusa should give priority to the affairs of the youths in the community. The branches of the Ibusa Community Development Union, the Ibusa leadership should take the lead. Our people should stop seeing our youths as liabilities while giving priority to politicians that they run to. Tactical avoidance of our youths is a denial of our future. - Elder Emeka Esogbue, Founder, Igbuzo Singles Meet Worldwide (ISM) Nnediohanma Ezinne Patricia Nnabuife: When we marry from our area, our children are not lost. I will work closely with Emeka Esogbue to support ISM to achieve its

Visiting the Ibusa Development: Enter Victor Uchunor, a Thinker of the People's Growth

Visiting the Ibusa Development: Enter Victor Uchunor, a Thinker of the People's Growth "Secondly, the time has come for us as a community to think of development. The idea of "Ego di n'oshia" should be a thing of the past. This is because after two years, four years, we are not able to lay a foundation for the development of the community, then questions should arise as to what role we played. What can they say after our exit on the idea of utilizing the resources of the community? There is nothing that stops Umuodafe for example from having a big hall as in Umuodafe community hall. We can also harness our resources to develop a shopping mall. There is nothing wrong with having a recreation centre as part of our legacies where Umuodafe sons and daughters will use it at a minimal cost. More so, if every village in Ibusa should embrace such an idea, Ibusa will not remain like this. But a situation where people lavish money and resources on frivolities does not tel

MOTHER AND DAUGHTER SUMMIT: NGO WORKERS, GAINING GROUND IN IBUSA With the recently held Igbuzo Singles Meet 10th anniversary program in Ibusa and the scheduled Mother and Daughter Summit billed to come up in the community, courtesy of Home of Mercy Foundation, it is looking like activities of NGOs are beginning to peak in the community where all attentions often focus on political arrangements and gains.  Pen Master had on Saturday, during the Conference and Lectures, organized by Igbuzo Singles Meet Worldwide, advised the leadership of the community and other notable groups to embrace NGOs on youth development, noting that the community's stakeholders consider affairs of the youth as liabilities and stylishly avoid participation.  "The Ibusa leaders should consider the future of the youth as the future of the community, knowing that the baton will be passed to them as guaranteed by nature. Any amount of proclaimed love for the community without the involvement of the youth i

vanishing Multiple Eze System in Anioma Cultural Space and Accompanying Challenges: A Case Study of the Ibusa Community

vanishing Multiple Eze System in Anioma Cultural Space and Accompanying Challenges: A Case Study of the Ibusa Community Emeka Esogbue   According to Gideon Ikenwe, “a society or community without stratification or authority, functions, and social ladder will enthrone disrespect, disorderliness and even anarchy, at which stage the community becomes ungovernable. There must be levels in every society and extant rules and regulations that will control these different levels and by and large, bring discipline to the entire community.” The Ibusa society with ladders of statuses and stratifications falls within the establishment of Gideon’s theory of social stratification as elucidated above. The Ibusa society recognizes that everyone in the society does not enjoy homogenous or equal rank or eminence, as individuals with different beliefs, desires, and aspirations will always want to rise beyond the other by climbing socio-political ladders to find their way to the top. The Ibusa society, h

HON ESEWEZIE AND HILARY OKOBI, CARRYING THE POLITICAL HOPE OF IBUSA

HON ESEWEZIE AND HILARY OKOBI, CARRYING THE POLITICAL HOPE OF IBUSA - HOW THE DUO BLESSED THE COMMUNITY WITH INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT - Report by Emeka Esogbue (Pen Master) A sigh of relief which will reduce the arduous search for a standard event center for use has come the way of event planners and their guests in Ibusa and environs.  Ibusa, one of the major communities in Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state had seriously faced dearth of standard halls, classically for the use of people to hold events and executive meetings until a few weeks ago when the current Executive Chairman of the Oshimili North Council embarked on the renovation of an unrepair Oshimili North LGA Liaison building in the community and converted it to elegance.  Before now, event planners faced the difficulty of holding events in the community with Asaba as the usual option where the occasion is to be large but all that ended with the executive choice of Hon Esewezie, the man they now nickname

UMUIDINAISAGBA KINDRED IN IBUSA: THE BEGINNING AND SPREAD TO MODERN TIMES

UMUIDINAISAGBA KINDRED IN IBUSA: THE BEGINNING AND SPREAD IN MODERN TIMES By Emeka Esogbue (Pen Master) INTRODUCTION Like most histories of African societies which belong to the non-literate period, the Umuidinaisagba people of Ibusa rely on the story handed them by their forebears to tell the history of their beginning, which is known as oral sources and having retained it from generation to generation, the history of the people has become useful to the present generation who equally hopes to pass it down to the future generation of their sons and daughters and Ibusa as a whole. The Umuidinaisagba people have always been proud of their beginning which gives them a place in Ibusa space, a true sense of belonging that preserves their direct lineage to Prince Umejei (or Umejei Nwa Eze Isu as he is natively known by his today’s descendants of Ibusa) Although they are biologically traced to one of the children of the said Prince Umejei, they have grown and spread today as a quart
