THE ANIOMA CULTURAL QUESTION FROM STEPHANIE ASHIBUOGWU This is Stephanie Ashibuogwu. Beautiful Stephanie hails from our Anioma's Ukwunzu community. Dressed in Akwa-ocha, the beautiful cultural attire of the Anioma people, beautiful Stephanie is asking what she would have gained culturally if she was not an Anioma, a question so difficult to answer. When we want to marry, we remember our Akwa-ocha attire. When it is time for funeral, we dress like this. When we have a very important event to attend, we dress like this. We, the Aniomas are very proud of who we are. You can say again. If you are not an Anioma, you are missing a lot.

These were Oba Overamwen Nogbaisi (1857-1897) also called Oba Overami of the Benin Kingdom and Obi Otiegede 1 (1835-1897) of Idumuogo. Both Oba Overami and Obi Otiegede 1 shared a lot in common. They were both contemporaries. They were friend s. They both hated the British imperialism. They both protected their territories. One had his kingdom bombarded in 1897 while the other died same year. Oba Overami was the son of Oba Adolo. Upon his coronation in 1888, he was crowned with the name, "Ovoramwen", meaning "The Rising Sun" and "Nogbasi" (Which Spreads All Over). He tried hard to protect his kingdom from the British occupation but did not succeed. Obi Otiegede Nwadei 1 was a Warlord and
