ABSTRACT:- Gender inequality can be regarded as the unequal treatment or perception of individuals on the basis of gender. It arises from differences in socially constructed gender roles as well as biologically through chromosomes, brain structure, and hormonal differences. It has been observed across the world, particularly in Africa, that womanhood is now reduced to a mere “infidel” and a second-class citizen ; hence, the general belief that the best place for women is in the ‘kitchen’ . This trend has brought about tremendous misrepresentation of women right from the level of the family down to the larger society. Majority of African countries are patriarchal in nature which is a major feature of a traditional society. It is a structure of a set of social relations with material base which enables men to dominate women and feel more entitled to material privileges than women. As a
