BELGIAN POLITICIAN SET FOR ANOTHER RECORD-BREAKING EXPERIENCE
By Emeka Esogbue
Joined by their Delta State counterparts, it is again another moment of celebration for the Anioma people as one of their sons has been nominated for the position of the Director-General of a new Commission under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).
All is now set for the Commission which the Presidency signed into law in 2017 to take-off and the Nige

rian-born Belgian politician from Ibusa is highly favoured among others to head it. By his education, experience and political accomplishments, Dr. Collins Nweke appears taller than other competitors in this journey of recognition. So far, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, one of the top contenders for the position was recently dropped through a nomination vote, leaving Collins Nweke favoured above other remaining nominees for this particular office.
What do we know about Dr. Collins Nweke?
He was born to Obi (Eze) Adigwe and Loveth Nweke on July 14, 1965 in his hometown of Ibusa in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, a community known for its richness in human resources. He acquired his education in the areas of Mass Communication, International Business Management and Management Social Economy. He is a 2014 Honorary Doctor of Governance awardee.
His combination of knowledge of the Nigeria socio-political, and economic space, Europe and the rest of the world bestows on him, increased vintage. In Nigeria, he taught English Literature at Omu Boys Senior Secondary School, Ibusa, Delta State and also worked with United Bank for Africa Plc. An acclaimed public practitioner, he worked for European Commission Justice and Home Affairs Directorate, where he provided them with research and analyses of Diaspora participation in European business and politics as well as in the Civil Service of Ostend City Department of Social Affairs.
Nweke is today a Counselor at Ostend City Council, West Flounders Province of Belgium under the platform of Green Party and he is doing his second tenure. This Anioma son is globally recognized and celebrated as the first and only non-Belgian born person ever elected to a political office in West Flounders, a clear testimony of his prodigious intellectual gift and political delivery, supremely accepted by the people of Belgium.
The achievements of Collins Nweke marvel the Nigerian Government thus, his nomination by the European constituency of the Nigerian Diaspora did not occur by sheer contingency. His track record in this area was carefully considered in its entirety. Once, he was the Chief Executive / Executive Secretary of the Board of Trustees of Nigerians in Diaspora in Europe (NIDO Europe) from 2004-2006; and from 2007-2009, the body's General Secretary. In 2011, he was elected Board Chairman. He was an Advisor to the Federal Government of Nigeria on the role of the Diaspora in national development. He has also worked in other diplomatic avenues notably with Ann Pettifor of Advocacy International UK that lobbied cancelation of debts for African countries.
If Dr. Collins Nweke emerges as the Director-General of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), the success already staring him in face, he will once again record another feat as the first Nigerian to occupy this position.
There's no doubt that the Aniomas are blessed in human endeavours as there seems to be no end to the people's infinite degree of global accomplishments and already the people of Delta State are rejoicing in anticipation.
