Reports from Ibusa in Oshimli North Local Government Area of Delta State say there has been a steady decline in the financial support of the Ibusa Community Police otherwise known as ICP, by a corp of Ibusa sons and daughters over the past months, resulting in a backlog of unpaid allowances to the ICP Operatives. This disclosure was made recently in the community by Dr. Austin Izagbo, the President-General of the Ibusa Community Development Union (ICDU).
Sources from ICP who spoke to this reporter on anonymity believe that the continuous provision of financial assistance to corps of the Community Police by same charitable hands from the community has understandably waned, culminating in decline in productivity of the services rendered by these Operatives as currently witnessed. In his view, these set of selfless people have done their best for the community, holding forth in this area since the introduction of the security outfit. Alternative means of sustainability will improve their salaries as well as morale in the security duties.
When contacted by this reporter to speak further on this development, Dr Izagbo emphasized the consequence of the decline affirming that "there have been continous rise in reports of various acts of criminality in our community. There is thus an urgent need to check this ugly situation before it gets out of hand".
This reporter also gathered that driven further to find a way out of this problem, the Ibusa Community Development Union in implementing one of the decisions reached at its last National Conference in Ibusa concerning the state of insecurity in the community had in consultation with various stakeholders in the community constituted a technical committee to
liaise with the Obuzor palace of the community to fashion out a holistic people driven
platform, structure, logistic and infrastructural needs of the Ibusa Community Police to keep the operatives on the task.
This Committee is to be chaired by Chief Dr. Nosike Agokei with the following as members:
Chief Victor Uchunor, Mrs Philo Okonkwo and Hon. Pat. Mozea.
Others are Mrs Felicia Adun, Mr. Clement Nwanze and Mr. Ifeanyi Eze. Mr. Ngozi Kwusike Ifechukwude is the Committee's Secretary.
The ICDU President-General appealed to the sons and daughters of the community to send necessary suggestions to the Chairman or Secretary of the Committee, which will help them realize their terms of reference.
