Anioma's Asaba was the first capital of Nigeria

Though the issue of Nigeria's first capital is controversial as there is no official statement to this effect, Asaba, the present capital of Delta State is the first ever capital of Nigeria.
Colonial masters started the administration of Nigeria from Asaba and this city was the preferred choice of the Royal Niger Company. It was from here that the British held many treaties with the people of inland and extended to the other parts of what is now Nigeria.
In Asaba, there is still the administrative headquarters from which the administration of the whole of Nigeria started. This was where Sir Toubman Goldie, the British first administrator of Nigeria was.
There is no doubt that Asaba was Nigeria's first seat of government. It was Ekumeku uprising that drove the British to relocate to Calabar.
